Our Story
The Tamil Association of WA (TAWA) Inc was founded in 1979 and celebrated its Silver Jubilee (25yrs) in 2004 and heading towards its Golden Jubilee in 2029.
The history of TAWA is rooted in the cultural and linguistic heritage of the Tamil-speaking people and was formed as a means to preserve, promote, and celebrate Tamil language, culture, traditions, and values among diaspora communities in Western Australia.
Over time, TAWA has evolved into a vital cultural hub that organizes various events, including festivals, language classes, music and dance performances, educational programs, and community outreach initiatives. We became instrumental in fostering a sense of unity and belonging among Tamil communities in Western Australia.
In recent years, TAWA has embraced technology and social media platforms to connect and engage with the younger generation, ensuring the continuation of Tamil heritage among the diaspora. We continue to be influential in promoting cross-cultural understanding and fostering a sense of pride and identity among Tamil communities.
