Our Story
The Tamil Association of WA Inc was founded in 1979 and celebrated its Silver Jubilee (25yrs) in 2004 and heading towards its Golden Jubilee in 2029.
Tamil Association of Western Australia commonly known as TAWA, actively promotes the Tamil Culture and Language with wide spread Tamil community in WA. Over the past fourty years, TAWA’s goal of promoting Tamil Language and embracing Tamil People irrespective of their Religion, Country of Birth, Gender and Interests is the secret of success.
The TAWA has its home, a leased premise at the Bateman suburb, known as Mandala Hall. The TAWA makes this Hall available for hire to other organisations or individuals. Please visit the Mandala Hall Hire link. Most of the TAWA functions are held in this facility.

Tamil has a rich history of art of entertainment. The three modes of entertainment classified as Iyal (Literature), Isai (Music) and Nadagam (Drama) had their roots in the rural folk theatre like Theru Koothu (Street play). Many forms of group and individual dances with the classical forms for popularity and sheer entertainment value. Some of the dance forms are performed by Tribal people. Majority of these dances are still thriving in Tamil Nadu today. We are looking for schools or individuals who conduct cultural classes in dance or music such as Bharathanatyam, Bommalattam, Kai Silambu Attam, Kolattum, Karagattam.
